Drawing on recent research in the fields of integrative medicine, positive psychology, mindfulness, nutrition, and behavior change, Carley integrates her experiences as an integrative life coach, former researcher, workplace consultant, and long-time practitioner and teacher of meditation in the Mindfully Nourished course. Thanks for joining me.  My name is Carley Hauck. I developed the curriculum for this course 15 years ago. Prior to discovering the tools and techniques I am about to share with you in this program, I didn’t have a very health relationship with my mind, my body, and my inner critic really ruled a lot of my thoughts.

I wanted to shift and I began studying topics such as: food as medicine, positive psychology, buddhism, and behavior change.  I then started to experiment with various tools and techniques on myself and when I found improvement I created the exercises you will find in this program.  I developed a step by step process, which helped me to turn my life around. I began to nourish and love myself in ways I had never experienced and a whole new world of opportunities and happiness emerged into my life.

Two years after teaching this course in San Francisco, I was invited to be a lead consultant with UCSF’s Osher Center for Integrative Medicine on these techniques and tools.  UCSF had been awarded a 6 million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study the long term benefits of mindfulness as it related to weight loss, stress resilience, well being, and the prevention of disease.

At the end of the SHINE study, we found 3 things really worked in creating long term weight loss, lower cortisol (your stress hormone) and the prevention of Type 2 Diabetes.

I have been a lead consultant on several research studies in a variety of settings and populations, even the workplace proving that this curriculum and these methods really work! Additionally, I have been fortunate to teach this course to thousands of people all over the world in worksites, community centers, at UC Berkeley, Stanford University, and now online.
